Adonia Tsakalakis
Adonia Tsakalakis was born in the beautiful mountains of the Mediterranean in Greece, soon after which she immigrated with her parents to Canada. Growing up with multiple talents, Adonia is a passionate volunteer in the Hellenic community of Calgary, she is the director of the Greek dance program known as Niata and also teaches Greek school to grade 2 students.
Recently graduating from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and a minor in Greco-Roman history, Adonia enrolled in several Kinesiology courses throughout her degree program. Fascinated by the anatomy and physiology of the body Adonia says "It became so addicting; I wanted to learn more and more about how the human system functions".
"Yoga was inspired into my life by a dear friend and mentor. Being a University student, working a part time job, and also being highly active in my community sometimes was stressful! I have to admit that when yoga was brought to me as an option in decreasing the pressure in my life, I was not keen on it. I had practiced it a few times before this and was not captured by its theories and methods. I gave my friend a second chance in helping alter my thoughts and having an open mind to the practice of yoga. I am sincerely appreciative to my dear friend and my own self that I did.
The ability to connect the mind, body and spirit has been something very enlightening. It is not something I gained over night or something that I have understood to its fullest. It is never-ending, and by continuing to practice on a daily basis, I believe one will gain a sense of satisfaction. At this point my studies from school and yoga had taken me to a complete new level of understanding my own body, mind and spirit.
Studying with Trinity Yoga Association, during November 2007 I also signed up for a yoga/surfing retreat in beautiful Costa Rica with some of the most talented, inspiring teachers who have helped guide my journey of yoga. I practiced for approximately 5 hours a day which included meditation and the physical aspect. Surfing came hand in hand with yoga! The movements were similar and very fun. I returned to Calgary with recharged batteries and a very positive mind set.
I believe the true teacher belongs in each and every person. I enjoy bringing a playful, fun setting into the studio and helping support individuals with their connection to yoga! Yoga begins with our simple life source of breathing. If you can breathe, your journey into yoga has already begun!"
